{Exercise Tutorial} Slider Ab Progression!
The people have spoken.
Well, at least the people over on the Purposeful Strength Instagram
(Throw ya boy a follow, click here)
I shared that I had filmed a dozen new videos for my online personal training movement bank and in this process had done over 35 reps of various ab exercises involving the sliders.
If you’ve never used the sliders before, you’re definitely missing out. These affordable and versatile tools are a MUST for any gym goer, whether you workout at home OR in a gym.
Pro tip: you can go to your local Walmart or Home Depot and buy ‘furniture sliders’ and use those. They’ll run you about $8 for a couple sets that come in the kit. Best deal running!
Needless to say, after doing a few dozen reps of various difficulty, I woke up the next day and felt like someone kicked me in the ribs.
Holy abs.
Summer’s coming sooooooooo, I guess it was worth it?
Regardless of how sore I felt, the people on Instagram wanted me to share the movements and the full progression, so here we are!
Movement 1: 1-arm slide outs from your knees
Movement 2: 2-arm slide outs from your knees
Movement 3: 1-arm slide outs from a plank
Movement 4: 2-arm slide outs from a plank
*Note- this one is really, really hard…)
I really enjoy the slide out variation. The drawn out eccentric focus (the lowering to the ground part) is where all the tension comes from and is super valuable in keeping your hips and ribs in a good alignment.
You know, hips and ribs…sounds like an awesome BBQ joint. Really, this just means that your body stays in alignment and as you fall forward, you have to fight the urge to collapse in to the ground OR arch your back.
Spine health. Boom. But also abs, duh.
I hope you enjoy this one!
